Frequently Asked Questions

Please reach at kim@hypnocoachkim.com if you cannot find an answer to your question.

Hypno-coaching utilizes hypnosis and life coaching to promote positive change in a person's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors.

First we work cognitively to find out what blocks are preventing the change you want to see in your life.

Then in hypnosis portion, you are guided into a deeply relaxed state, often referred to as a trance. Trance allows us access to the subconscious mind, where deep-seated beliefs and patterns are stored.

In this state, your mind is more open to suggestions, allowing you to explore and change the thoughts and feelings that may be affecting your well-being.

About Hypnosis:

  • Relaxation: Hypnosis induces a state of deep relaxation, helping to reduce stress and anxiety.
  • Access to the Subconscious: It allows access to the subconscious mind, where deep-seated beliefs and patterns can be addressed.
  • Change: Hypnosis can help change unwanted habits and behaviors, such as smoking or overeating, fears and phobias, sleep quality, and so much more.

Overall, hypno-coaching is a collaborative process aimed at empowering individuals to achieve their personal goals and enhance their quality of life.

Hypno-coaching is a unique and effective approach that offers several benefits for individuals seeking personal growth and healing. Here are some compelling reasons to consider hypno-coaching:

1. Holistic Approach

Hypno-coaching addresses both the mind and body, helping to promote overall well-being. It focuses on the root causes of issues rather than just alleviating symptoms.

2. Proven Effectiveness

Research has shown hypnosis to be effective for a range of conditions, including anxiety, stress, pain management, insomnia, and phobias. Many clients experience significant improvements after just a few sessions.

3. Personalized Treatment

Sessions are tailored to your specific needs and goals, allowing for a customized approach that resonates with your individual experiences.

4. Safe and Non-Invasive

Hypnosis is a natural and non-invasive method that does not rely on medication. It promotes healing and transformation through relaxation and positive suggestion.

5. Empowerment

Hypno-coaching empowers you to take control of your thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It fosters self-awareness and confidence, helping you make lasting changes in your life.

6. Stress Relief

The deep relaxation achieved during hypnosis can significantly reduce stress and anxiety, promoting a sense of calm and clarity.

7. Improved Focus and Motivation

Hypno-coaching can enhance your ability to focus and increase motivation, making it easier to achieve your personal and professional goals.

8. Long-Lasting Results

Many clients find that the benefits of hypnosis extend beyond the sessions, leading to lasting changes in mindset and behavior.

Choosing hypno-coaching can be a powerful step towards improving your overall well-being.

Taking care of your mental health is extremely important and has many short-term and long-term benefits. Both hypno-coaching and mental health counselling can be very valuable for anyone who wants to improve their mental health and personal life.  Here is a short description of how they differ:

  • Focus A hypno-coach incorporates hypnosis and coaching to help clients overcome current problems, improve their performance in a specific area and help clients achieve goals in the future. Mental health counselors/psychotherapists focus on helping clients understand how their past experiences and how their distorted thought patterns influence their emotions and behaviors.
  • Objectives Hypno-coaching helps clients tap into their strengths, address weaknesses, and overcome fears. Psychotherapists treat mental illness, helping patients navigate and overcome mental health disorders as described in the DSM-5
  • Stigma/Societal Perception Seeking coaching may be seen as a proactive step towards self-improvement, while seeking care from a psychiatrist can sometimes be viewed as  having a "problem."
  • Training Hypnotists/Hypno-Coaches are trained to work within the scope of academic, vocational, avocational, self improvement. Mental health therapists are trained to diagnose and treat mental health disorders.
  • Framework and approach In both hypno-coaching and mental health counselling, you will talk with a trained professional. However, in therapy, you will most likely engage in unstructured sessions in which the patient will guide what is talked about.  Hypno-coaching, in contrast, is more structured and focused on actionable strategies and external growth. As coaches are process experts, their approach will depend on the individual.

While both hypno-coaching and mental health therapy can help people improve, they are not the same thing. Choosing between coaching and counselling will come down to your individual needs. If you have a mental health disorder, need to deal with past pain and how it affects your life, relationships and mental state, then a mental health counsellor is the right option for you.

However, if you want to work on your goals and focus on improving your future, working with a hypno-coach could benefit you best.

The paths of coaching and therapy can intersect and sometimes lead to the same destination.  When used in tandem, and under the supervision of your mental health provider, it can produce an amazing result.  Hypnosis is an effective tool to add to your healing journey.

Hypno-coaching sessions are designed to be soothing and tailored to your unique needs. Here’s a step-by-step overview of what you can expect when you work with Kim:

Initial consultation: We begin with a thorough discussion to understand your specific experiences, your goals, and any other relevant factors.

Customized treatment plan: Based on your consultation, I create a personalized hypnotherapy plan designed to address your unique symptoms and concerns.  I research every client's particular presentation of symptoms.  I do not believe in a one size fits all approach to therapy. I spend approximately 2 hours researching and developing tailored scripts weekly to your healing session.

Session: The session ranges from 60-90 minutes depending on what is shared.  A typical session is divided into (3) 20-30 minute segments.

  • First is weekly review:  During this period I gather information to add to your script. We review your progress and struggles and how you managed your symptoms this past week
  • Second is the relaxing hypnotic journey:  You will experience a guided relaxation that will calm your mind and body.  I will then use therapeutic techniques to address the root causes and bring about the changes that you desire.
  • Third is a review of the journey: This is important to see what worked and did not work in the trance.  Knowing this allows me to note progress and further tailor your next session to effectively speak to your subconscious mind.

Ongoing support: I provide continuous support and adapt your plan as needed to ensure the best possible outcomes. Additionally, I offer weekly coaching sessions for those who like more support on their healing journey.

Hypnosis is a powerful tool that can be used to harnesses the power of the subconscious mind to address and alleviate issues that no longer serve us.

Our minds primarily work on two levels, the conscious and subconscious. Logic, reason, decision making and willpower lie in our conscious mind. Our conscious mind and conscious thought process only uses about 12% of our mind. Everything we have learned or associated is stored in the subconscious mind. This is about 88% of our mind's capabilities, but it is generally closed from our conscious thoughts.  This is why you may find it hard to make the positive changes you are seeking.

We are taught willpower is how we change habits, but the subconscious mind has considerable influence on our actions and decisions.

In the relaxed state we call hypnosis, we communicate with the subconscious mind. This is why people see quick results.  Clients find hypnosis helps them to change stubborn lifetime habits and reach their goals faster.

A hypnotist's scope of practice includes academic, vocational, avocational (sport/hobby) and self-improvement counseling. I am not a medical doctor, nor do I hold a Phd. I cannot address issues that qualify as medical, emotional, or psychological disorders as defined by the DSM -5.

Hypnosis cannot affect the chemical imbalance but can help with the associated behaviors. Some examples would be: developing habits to help with focus and concentration for someone with ADHD or helping to suggest coolness for one experiencing hot flashes during menopause.

Hypnotists do not diagnose, prescribe or treat medical or psychological disorders.

I completed 750 credit hours with HMI, the oldest and first Nationally Accredited College of Hypnotherapy in the United States. Additionally, I hold Certifications in "Hypnosis and PTSD," "Hypnosis and ADHD" and "Hypnosis and Weight Loss."  I am devoted to Continuing Education so I can better serve my clients.

I am registered with the State of Florida, insured and a member in good standing with the American Hypnosis Association.

Choosing a good hypnotherapist is important. They will know how to effectively help you change your behaviors and habits allowing you to take control of your life.

Everyone can be hypnotized. It is a natural state that is experienced several times a day and you often can slip into a state of hypnosis without realizing it. If you can listen and follow directions, you can be brought into a hypnotic state. However, you must allow it to happen during our session to achieve the goals you set for yourself.

Examples of hypnosis:

  • Have you ever driven somewhere and don't remember how you got there; this is an example of hypnosis.
  • Have you ever let yourself get drawn into a movie or a book? Where you feel what is happening on the screen or page. You can imagine or feel the tension, the fear, the joy or sadness in your body; this is also hypnosis.
  • I know you have experienced people so engrossed in their phones that they don't even hear you talking to them; this is a form of hypnosis.

Yes, you can still be hypnotized if you are strong-willed! Many people falsely that they are too strong to be hypnotized; that hypnosis is for the weak or the naive. But in fact, people who are intelligent and strong-willed are generally very successful with hypnosis because they are good at using their minds for success.

Hypnosis is not about losing control; rather, it's about focusing your attention and being open to suggestions. Strong-willed individuals often have good concentration skills, which can actually make them and more productive in hypnosis.

Being strong-willed may mean you are more discerning about what suggestions you accept, but this will not prevent you from entering a hypnotic state.

Many people won't be able to tell if they are in a hypnotic state. Some people don't even think that they were hypnotized. But they will find that the issue or behaviors that they came to change are no longer as big an issue.

Hypnosis is simply a deeply relaxed state.   Most people enter a hypnotic state several times a day with out realizing it. When driving on a familiar road, you may daydream and next thing you know you are pulling into your destination. This is called driving hypnosis.

Yes, Hypnosis is approved by the American Psychological Association to treat many conditions, including pain management, stress reduction, and behavior modification.

  1. One of the key factors that contribute to the safety of hypnosis is the training and credentials of the practitioner. It’s important to work with a registered hypnotist who follows ethical guidelines. This ensures that the techniques used are appropriate and that the client’s well-being is prioritized.
  2. Hypnosis is a non-invasive technique that does not involve medication or physical procedures. It relies on verbal suggestions and mental imagery, making it a low-risk option for many individuals seeking help.
  3. Hypnosis should be performed in a safe, controlled environment where the client feels comfortable. This can enhance the experience and reduce any anxiety about the process.
  4. Numerous studies support the safety and efficacy of hypnosis for various conditions, including chronic pain, fears and phobias, vocational success, and even helping with weight loss. When conducted by a qualified professional, hypnosis can lead to positive outcomes.

Hypnosis is a natural state. You will experience a deep sense of relaxation. You will feel very relaxed, calm and at ease.

You will hear everything I say, although your memory of the session could be a little foggy afterwards.

Sounds from the environment may be louder at times, that is normal. Hypnosis puts you in a state of hyper awareness. Research shows that 20-60 minutes of hypnosis can feel like 4-8 hours of restful sleep.

No, hypnosis cannot make you do something against your will or values. Hypnosis is not external mind control. It gives YOU the power to control your own mind.

While in a hypnotic state, you are more open to suggestions, HOWEVER you remain in control of your actions and decisions. If a suggestion conflicts with your morals  or personal beliefs, you would just reject it. Hypnosis works best when the individual is willing and receptive to the process, making it a collaborative experience between the hypnotist and the client. A trained hypnotist prioritizes your well-being and will work within your comfort zone. If you have concerns about the process, it’s important to discuss them with the hypnotist beforehand to ensure a positive experience.

No. Hypnosis is not a truth serum. You are in control of what you share and don't share while in hypnosis. So this is important to know, you need to be open and honest about your goals and blocks to get the maximum benefit of your session.

You cannot be stuck in hypnosis.  I will guide you OUT as I guided you in. However, if an alarm were to go off, you would quickly and easily come out of the hypnotic state and be able to handle the situation as needed.

All hypnosis is SELF hypnosis. I am simply a guide to help take you into state and give you the positive suggestions for the changes YOU would like to make.
